International Competition 2nd Prize
This prize winning competition design for the German pavilion at the Expo 2000 contains a 360° cinema, 42 metres in diameter, the related “Pre-show” and waiting areas as well as large exhibition spaces. It represents the theme of the Expo "Man-Nature-Technology" with a highly symbolic image.
The shape of the building is inspired by nature and based on the geometry of the central circular cinema, as well as the innovative energy-efficient ventilation system that exploits natural airflow behavior, and also strategies for managing visitor flows.
The resulting architecture, with its dynamic expression, is complemented by the rich and vibrant texture of the façade, which is based on precise geometry.
