On a 25.650 m² area at the green district Zehlendorf a new stadium on behalf of the Berlin Rugby Club is planned, that will host 1.000 spectators.
Aside from the stands, the two-story building comprises sanitary facilities and changing rooms for the team players, a gym and an office. A restaurant with bar is also part oft he stadium.
The architecture's materiality is dominated by exposed concrete and glass. The stadium's façade is set together by prefabricated shotcrete rectangles. All non-private areas on the second floor – office, restaurant and fitness room – come with glass façades and are formed as boxes to be slid-in under the roof of the stands, thereby making transparent their usage. The restaurant will be equipped with large-scale transparent sliding elements to be opened with warm weather. All sanitary facilities and changing rooms on the ground floor will be illuminated by natural light coming from skylights. A steel frame construction makes the roof floating lightly above the slid-in glass boxes underneath.
